Product Details

SAAZ 500 mg Tablet is a prodrug, which is used in the treatment of ulcerative colitis, bowel inflammation, and diarrhea. It is used to treat rheumatoid arthritis in adults and children who are not getting enough benefit with other medicines.

 

Indications:

  • Ulcerative Colitis
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Crohn's Disease

Dosage:

  • Ulcerative Colitis: 3-4 g/day PO divided TID after meals; may start 1-2 g qDay
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis: Enteric coated: 2-3 g/day PO divided TID after meals; may start 0.5-1 g qDay
  • Crohn Disease: 3-6 g/day PO divided TID after meals.

Side effects:

  • Joint pain
  • Skin rash and itching
  • Headache
  • Increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight
  • Bleeding from nose
  • Dark colored urine
  • Sore throat
  • Loss of appetite

Interactions:

  1. Interaction with Medicine: Severe to moderate interaction with Methotrexate, Digoxin, Diclofenac, Hypoglycemic agents.

  2. Interaction with Diseases:
    > Hematologic toxicity: This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with a known history of blood disorders due to the increased risk of serious side effects. It is advised that you inform your doctor about all your medical conditions before taking this medicine. Replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on the clinical condition of the patient.

Contraindications:

  • Hypersensitivity to sulfasalazine or its metabolites, to sulfonamides, or to salicylates
  • Intestinal or urinary tract obstruction
  • Porphyria

Warnings:

  • Blood dyscrasias.: This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with a known history of blood disorders.
  • Hepatic disease: This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with a known history of hepatic dysfunction.
  • Oligospermia and infertility:This medicine should be used with caution in men due to the increased risk of impotence.
  • Pregnancy: This medicine is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless necessary. The risks and benefits should be discussed with the doctor before taking this medicine.
  • Breast-feeding: This medicine is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless absolutely necessary. Discuss all the risks and benefits with your doctor before taking this medicine.
  • Safety with alcohol: Interaction with alcohol is unknown. It is advisable to consult your doctor before consumption.

General Instructions:

  • Take sulfasalazine tablet as instructed by the doctor.
  • Do not take larger amounts than prescribed.
  • Seek emergency medical treatment in case of any side effects.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine without consulting your doctor.

Storage conditions:

  • Store between 15°C-30°C.
  • Do not freeze.
