Product Details

TRAJENTA is an antidiabetic medicine used alone or in combination with other medicines to treat Type 2 Diabetes in adult patients. The drug is not recommended for use in patients with Type 1 Diabetes and diabetic ketoacidosis.

 

Indications:

  • Type II Diabetes Mellitus

Dosage:

  • 5 mg PO q day

Onset of Action: Not clinically established

Duration of Action: Not clinically established

 

Dosage Modifications:

  • Hepatic or renal impairment: No dosage adjustment required.

Side Effects:

  • Nasopharyngitis
  • Hyperlipidemia
  • Cough
  • Hypertriglyceridemia
  • Weight gain
  • Hypoglycemia

Interactions:

  1. Interaction with Drugs: Linagliptin interacts with Aripiprazole, Clozapine, Dexamethasone, Dopamine, Acetazolamide, Gatifloxacin, Bexarotene
  2. Interaction with Diseases: Linagliptin should be used with extreme caution in patients with a known history of pancreatitis due to the increased risk of recurrent pancreatitis.
  3. Interaction with Food: No interactions with food is available.

 

Contraindications:

  • Hypersensitivity (eg, anaphylaxis, angioedema, exfoliative skin conditions, urticaria, or bronchial hyperreactivity)
  • Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus
  • Diabetic ketoacidosis

Warnings:

  • Use in combination with an insulin secretagogue (eg, sulfonylurea) was associated with a higher rate of hypoglycemia compared with placebo in a clinical trial.
  • Rifampin decreased linagliptin exposure suggesting that the levels may be reduced when administered in combination with a strong P-gp or CYP 3A4 inducer; alternative treatment is strongly recommended when linagliptin is to be administered with P-gp or CYP 3A4 inducers.
  • Serious hypersensitivity reactions reported including anaphylaxis, angioedema, and exfoliative skin conditions.
  • Severe and disabling arthralgia reported in patients taking DPP-4 inhibitors; consider as a possible cause for severe joint pain and discontinue drug if appropriate.
  • Safety with alcohol: However, consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with this medicine due to the increased risk of severe adverse effects.
  • Pregnancy: Not recommended unless absolute necessary.
  • Lactation: Not recommended unless absolute necessary.

General Instructions:

  • Take this medicine exactly as instructed by the doctor.
  • It can be taken with or without food.
  • Do not take in larger or smaller amounts than advised/prescribed.

Storage Conditions:

  • Store at room temperature, under 77°F (25ºC).
  • Keep it away from high temperatures.
