Product Details

MINIL 10MG Tablet is a popular non-selective beta blocker medicine that is used for the lowering of high blood pressure and relieving chest pain caused due to reduced blood flow to the heart. It is also used for treating complications associated with heart, blood vessels, and other organs.

 

Indications:

  • Hypertension: As a single medicine or in combination with others.
  • Angina pectoris: Decrease the frequency of occurrence of chest pain and also increase exercise tolerance.
  • Migraine prevention: Used for the prevention of migraine headaches. However, the efficacy of this medicine in relieving migraine headaches is unknown.
  • Hypertrophic subaortic stenosis:Used in this condition for improving the capacity to perform physical work.
  • Heart rhythm disorders: Used to treat irregularities in the heart beat rhythm.
  • Heart Attack:Used during the early stages of treatment of heart attack.
  • Essential tremor: Used to treat the symptoms of tremor, where a part of the body starts to shake without any control.
  • Pheochromocytoma:Used for the treatment of symptoms caused due to adrenal gland tumor.

Dosage:

  1. Hypertension: Immediate release: 40 mg PO q12hr initially, increasing every 3-7 days;
                             Maintenance: 80-240 mg PO q8-12hr; not to exceed 640 mg/day.
  2. Migraine Prophylaxis: 80 mg/day PO divided q6-8hr initially; may be increased by 20-40 mg/day every 3-4 weeks; not to exceed 160-240 mg/day divided q6-8hr. Withdraw therapy if satisfactory response not seen after 6 weeks
  3. Angina: 80-320 mg/day PO divided q6-12hr
  4. Pheochromocytoma: 30-60 mg/day PO in divided doses
  5. Hypertrophic Subaortic Stenosis: 20-40 mg PO q6-8hr
  6. Supraventricular Arrhythmia: PO: 10-30 mg q6-8hr IV: 1-3 mg at 1 mg/min initially; repeat q2-5min to total of 5 mg. Once response or maximum dose achieved, do not give additional dose for at least 4 hours.
  7. Portal Hypertension/Prevention of variceal bleeding: 10-60 mg PO q6-8hr; 10 mg PO q8hr initially; titrate dose to reduce resting heart rate by 25%.
  8. Essential Tremor: 40 mg PO q12hr initially; Maintenance: 120-320 mg/day PO divided q8-12hr.
  9. Antipsychotic-Induced Akathisia: 30-120 mg PO q8-12hr.

 

Onset of Action: The effect of this medicine can be observed within 1-2 hours of oral administration. However, time taken for a visible change in symptoms may vary based on the condition for which it is taken

Duration of Action: The effect of a conventional tablet lasts for 6-12 hours upon oral administration. This duration may increase to 24 hours if an extended release form is administered.

 

Side Effects:

  • Dizziness
  • Diarrhea
  • Difficulty in breathing
  • Skin blistering
  • Swelling of face, lips, eyelids, tongue, hands and feet
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Weight gain
  • Hypotension
  • Chest pain and discomfort

Interactions:

  1. Interaction with Medicines: Moderate to Severe interaction with Amlodipine, Diltiazem, Lidocaine, Aminophylline, Diclofenac, Formoterol, Epinephrine etc.
  2. Interaction with Diseases
    Asthma: Propanolol should not be used in patients suffering from bronchial asthma or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Report the incidence of Asthma or other obstructive diseases to your doctor so that the propanolol can be substituted with another medicine.
    Heart Disease: Propanolol is not recommended for use if you suffer from a heart condition. Heart failure, a disease of the blood vessels, rhythm disorders etc should be informed to the doctor before propanolol is prescribed. It is likely that the symptoms of heart disease may worsen and hence caution is advised.
    Diabetes: Propanolol should be used with caution in patients suffering from diabetes or have a condition where the likelihood of a sudden decrease in blood sugar levels is high.
    Allergy: Propanolol tablet should be used with caution if you have seasonal allergies or are allergic to certain specific substances like pollen, cheese etc. The frequency of allergic attacks may increase and medicine to treat allergy might become less effective.
  3. Interaction with Food: Propanolol tablet should be used with caution if you are taking vitamin and mineral supplement. Report the usage of supplements to the doctor so that dose adjustments and safety monitoring can be done. There should be a gap of at least 2 hours between the consumption of these two medicines.

 

Contraindications:

  • Allergy
  • Heart Failure
  • Heart rhythm disorders
  • Asthma 

Warnings:

  1. Heart failure: Propanolol can cause heart failure, especially in people having a heart disease. Suitable dose adjustment and safety monitoring might be required based on the severity of the disease.
  2. Allergy: Propanolol should be used with caution if you have seasonal allergies or allergy to specific food substances. Use of this medicine can increase the frequency and severity of allergies.
  3. Asthma: Propanolol should be used with caution in patients having asthma or other obstructive diseases.
  4. Diabetes and hypoglycemia: Propanolol should be administered with caution in patients having elevated blood sugar levels. Some adverse effects may not be evident in these cases and hence doctor's intervention is a must before taking this medicine.
  5. Thyrotoxicosis: Propanolol should be administered with caution in patients having elevated thyroid hormone level. Some adverse effects may not be evident in these cases. Hence doctor's intervention is a must before taking this medicine.
  6. Sports: It is advised to not indulge in certain sports while MINIL 20 MG Tablet is consumed. Archery, racing, shooting and other high-risk sports should be avoided. Sports persons should refer to the list of medicines published by World Anti-Doping Agency which are not to be taken while participating in specific sports events.
  7. Pediatric use: The extended release form this medication should not be administered in children below 17 years of age.
  8. Pregnancy: This medicine is not recommended for use during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary. Consult your doctor about the potential benefits and risks before deciding to take this medicine.
  9. Lactation: Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
  10. Safety with alcohol: Consumption of alcohol is not recommended.

 

Storage Conditions:

  • Store at 20° to 25° C (68° to 77° F); excursions permitted to 15° to 30° C (59° to 86° F).
