Product Details

ATORLIP 40mg tablet is used to reduce the levels of bad cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood. Along with taking this medicine, a change in diet and regular exercise is recommended. The medicine helps in reducing the long-term cardiovascular risks such as stroke, heart attacks, chest pain etc.

 

Indications:

  • Hypercholesterolaemia
  • Prevention of cardiovascular disease

Dosage:

  • Dosage usually start from 10 mg daily. Doses should be individualised and adjusted every 4 weeks to 40 mg daily. Thereafter, the dose may be increased to a maximum of 80 mg daily.

Onset of Action: Effect observed within 3 to 5 days of administration.

Duration of Action: Remains active in the body for 3 to 4 days after onset of action.

 

Side Effects:

  • Cough
  • Difficulty in swallowing
  • Diarrhea
  • Impaired liver function
  • Joint pain
  • Muscle pain
  • Runny Nose
  • Difficulty in breathing Insomnia

Interactions:

  1. Interaction with Medicines: Interaction of atorvastatin occurs with Clarithromycin, Erythromycin, Azithromycin, Atazanavir, Cyclosporine
  2. Interaction with Diseases: The drug is found to interact in patients with liver disease, rhabdomyolysis, cognitive Impairment, diabetes.
  3. Interaction with Foods: Consumption of grapefruit juice is not recommended.

 

Contraindications:

  • Hypersensitivity to the drug.
  • Active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations of serum transaminases exceeding 3 times the upper limit of normal.
  • Treated with the hepatitis C antivirals glecaprevir/pibrentasvir.

Warnings:

  • Warning may need to be taken in patients with cognitive impairment, high blood sugar levels, muscle degradation in elderly, liver impairment and rhabdomyolysis.
  • For patient with heavy alcohol consumption, medicine should be taken with great caution.
  • Pregnancy: Not recommended unless necessary, also in women of child-bearing potential and women not using appropriate contraceptive measures.
  • Lactation: Not recommended unless necessary.

General Instructions:

  • The drug should be taken as instructed by the doctor.
  • It can be taken with or without food.
  • The quantity consumed should not be more or less than prescribed and the duration should be as instructed by the doctor.

Storage Conditions:

  • Store atorvastatin at room temperature between 68°F (20°C) and 77°F (25°C).
  • Keep it away from high temperatures.
  • Don't store this medication in moist or damp areas, such as bathrooms.
